Documentation

Resource gathering for the intergeo project will proceed in three steps. The first step is currently (winter 2008) under way. The information you will enter now will be the basis for a more detailed version of the resources and platform, where the resources will be translated into a common file format and tagged with pedagogical metadata.

For documentation concerning this platform XWiki and its syntax.

You first need to register.

Open an account

Click on Register in the upper right corner of the page. Enter your first name, family name, choose a nickname (login) or leave the default FistnameFamilyname, choose and remember a password, give it twice, enter a valid email address and click on the Validate button.

Create a new trace

First of all, a trace is nothing more than a URL with a title, an author, a distribution licence, a subject and a description (in a given language). It can be a simple imaware (a naked construction with a short comment) or a more elaborate document, mixing several constructions around a common theme.

Go to the Traces page where the list of all current traces is available. You can filter or order with respect to the title, the subject, the author or the license.

You can see below this list a one-line formular where you can create a new trace. Simply choose it a name and push the create button. Be sure to be logged in (your name appears in the upper-right corner of the page).

Fill in the different fields. You can as well view a resource that is similar to the one you have in mind and duplicate it.

The fields are:

  • Title
  • URL
  • Author (it can be you, an institution, or someone who gave you his/her authorization)
  • License (to be chosen within a list, CC Sharealike being the defaut)
  • Description (what is shown, in one sentence in your own language)
  • Topic (it is mainly for supervision purposes)
  • Other themes (to collect the items that seem important to you)
  • Teaching level (age range for example)
  • Discrete Geometry Software (the software used for the creation of the construction)

Edit your profile

Click on your name in the upper-right corner. Your personal page appears. Click on the Edit tab in the upper-left corner to change the tex, introduce yourself, choose a picture etc… In a second phase (not ready yet), you will have to state the classes you teach in, your preferred software and other preferences which will help to prefill in automatically necessary items in the pedagogical metadata, and will guide the search engine when you will search for resources.
