The Best Way To Improve Your Balance And Coordination

Do you suffer from poor balance and find yourself tilting over, when you are walking? If so, you may be suffering from an underlying condition that is linked to your vestibular system. Of course, you will have to visit an ear, nose, and throat specialist to have this condition treated, before moving forward. Once you complete this task, you should follow the tips below, so that you can correct your poor balance and coordination.

If your shoes are worn or too large, they will make you at a higher risk for falls. Some people have what is called over-pronation or under-pronation, which means that your feet will turn inward or outward on each step. This can cause your shoes to wear down on one side, which can alter your balance. If you notice a change in the sole of your shoe, then you very well may have one of these conditions, which may be related to your weight, age, or preexisting foot conditions. Nursing shoes should have a thick rubber sole, with arch support, in order for them to improve your poor coordination.

Physical Therapy

If you have a history of middle ear infection with permanent damage to your eardrum, you may need to sign up for some physical therapy. An occupational and physical therapist will work with you to teach you how to combat your dizziness and poor balance. Of course, you will need to learn how to stand slow, so your body can adjust to body changes. This alone will help decrease the dizziness that you experience, when you stand up quickly.

Walking Cane

If you are an older adult, you may want to consider investing in a walking cane. This equipment will prevent you from falling, when you are ambulating. You can purchase a one or three point cane, so be sure to check out all of your options, prior to making your final purchase.
