I grew up in Austria and have a background in mathematics education and computer science from the University of Salzburg. I was always interested in the application of technology for learning and teaching of mathematics. In 2002, I created the dynamic mathematics software GeoGebra as part of my master's thesis project in computer science. From 2003 to 2006, I was engaged in various projects in Austria concerning the use of dynamic mathematics software for teaching. After finishing my PhD in mathematics education, I worked as a visiting professor in a National Science Foundation project with middle school teachers in South Florida. Since August 2008, I am based at the Learning Systems Institute of Florida State University in Tallahassee.
